Secure local storage in Bacup and Rossendale

Rossendale Self Storage

History of Rossendale Self Storage

How Rossendale Self Storage grew from Quick's Freighthaul logistics depot into Rossendale's original and largest self storage facility.

Rossendale Self Storage is part of a local business story that started before self storage was a common service in the valley. The Atherton Way site was originally connected with Quick's Freighthaul Limited, a logistics company collecting Rossendale's shoe manufacturing output and moving 40 ft trailers into the TNT distribution network, later part of FedEx.

Local logistics roots

The depot supported Rossendale's manufacturing economy by moving goods from local shoe manufacturers into national and international distribution routes.

The first storage customers

Ben Quick began using a small part of the depot as storage space for business customers who needed practical local room for goods and equipment.

Registered in 2006

After seeing the need for proper self storage in Rossendale, Ben built the first 100 rental units and registered Rossendale Self Storage Ltd in 2006.

From freight depot to Rossendale's first self storage company

The original idea was modest: use part of an existing depot to help business customers store items locally. The leap of faith came when Ben Quick built the first 100 rental units for residential customers and created the first Rossendale Self Storage Ltd.

That local-first approach still shapes the business. Customers do not need a complicated contract to make space. Pricing is simple, affordable and based on a clear price per day, so customers only pay for what they use. There is no notice period to move in or move out.

A facility built around real local needs

Since 2006, the facility has grown into a 600-unit self storage site serving households, trades and businesses across Rossendale. Storage options now range from heated residential units from 19 square feet up to 300 square feet, through to 20 ft shipping containers, covered motorbike storage, PO mailbox services and practical stock support for business customers.

The business has also continued to improve the site. More recent additions include fiberglass shipping containers designed to further combat condensation, alongside established indoor and outdoor storage options.

Business storage with logistics experience behind it

Because the site grew out of a freight and distribution background, Rossendale Self Storage is not limited to box storage. Business customers can ask about stock deliveries, collection and distribution support, and forklift-assisted movement for goods that need practical handling.

Secure storage that has grown with the site

The facility uses a layered security approach including electrified fencing, CCTV, laser detection, motion detection and controlled site protection. That matters whether a customer is storing house contents during a move, tools for a trade, archived business records or stock for a growing company.

Why this history matters

Rossendale Self Storage is not a remote warehouse brand or a copied national model. It is a local company that grew from Rossendale's own industrial and logistics history into the valley's original and largest self storage facility.
